Graveyard of Honorable projects is a page dedicated to my projects that didn’t gain enough momentum to continue. I honor these projects, because they inspired and helped me gain new skills every time. They were done with high hopes, dedication, and with great expectations. There is a certain amount funding and general support that gaming miniature projects need for them to be able to continue and grow. Some of these projects did get to see the light of day and are in the hands of the supporters that rallied in support my work. I am really grateful for my supporters and their words of encouragement. May it serve as inspiration to those that are on a journey to making their dreams come true. Always forward, never backwards.
1. Atomico vs Los Zombies
– 35mm post apocalyptic zombie miniature line and game.
This project was really close to me it was my first miniature line. Countless hours and hard work was put into this project. I didn’t have access to a spin caster, so I cast the 1st miniatures with a dental caster. It was a very frustrating process, but I was determined to succeed in the casting. I also printed reward t-shirts based on the main character. Unfortunately this project had no response from the gaming community. The project was cancelled after 20 days, with almost no response.
2. Resin Zombies
– 7 inch resin zombie models.
This was my second project were I was pressure casting resin zombie models that I’ve sculpted. It did get plenty of media likes, but try paying the materials with likes. Even with good media exposure the project didn’t fund. Now at this point its starts becoming hard to stay positive. I decide to invest on equipment necessary to producing miniatures and double down my efforts.
3. Zombie Miniatures
– 28mm zombie miniature line.
This was my 3rd project. 28mm Zombie miniatures made out of pewter. At this point it was pretty devastating morale wise. Putting the funding goal to $100 in order to not lose face. At that point SoCal gamers reached out supported along other gamers. I understand peoples hesitation in supporting an unknown sculptor after being let down by others. Funded at $387. It was a Pyrrhic Victory with losses at this point greatly felt, while others were funding in the $5000 to $8000’s on average. I made sure that all the miniatures were delivered that same week.
4. Dwarf Fantasy Football minitures
– 28mm miniature fantasy football team.
Coming off a very small win I decided to triple my efforts in the miniature field and make miniatures for fantasy football as there was a clamor for these niche miniatures. Seeing that may have found a home for my skill set, I embarked on making a full Dwarven football team. Working around the clock I did finish the team with plenty of extras. Even though my project funded low compared to other similar projects I was very pleased with my victory. Finally hard work was starting to pay off.
5 & 6. Amazon Fantasy Football Team
– 28mm miniature fantasy football team launch and relaunch.
At this point with a renewed sense of purpose I set on a path the sculpt more fantasy football teams, and set the funding goal to a modest amount well below the norm. Now with enthusiasm I start sculpting the Amazon team. At the same time, I was unaware that there was mixed feelings about me even doing these miniatures in the fantasy football forums. May be perceived as an outsider I was not very welcomed in this community. It didn’t fund, and as rub salt on a wound, hate blogs pop up almost as to say how dare make miniatures for them. Still my supporters stayed solid to the bitter end and for that I am very grateful.
I did relaunch at a low funding goal. It funded, but all hopes to continue making fantasy football miniatures were set into question. I had a small group of solid supporters, but not enough to continue more teams. I was not about to burden them with my uphill battle with a niche community that was not interested in my work, so I’ve decided with a heavy heart not to make anymore fantasy football teams.
7. Steam Punk Vampire Hunters miniatures
– 28mm to 30mm steam punk miniatures.
In another attempt to find a home for my miniature skills, I set on to create miniatures for the steam punk miniature community. Testing the waters I set the funding goal low and it funded. There wasn’t great response from the steam punk community, but at least it was a pleasant project.
****In short I won’t be making zombie exclusive projects as there is an over-saturation of zombie miniatures in the industry. Also I won’t be making anymore fantasy football miniatures since the fantasy football community has already decided which companies they will support, and I’m not one of them. No hard feelings, I made a solid attempt, and truly appreciate the support that came from those that gave me a chance. I won’t be making anymore steam punk miniatures as there is companies that specialize in that genre and I can’t really sustain low funding projects for too long in any genre. When a genre starts being difficult to fund and recoup material costs, then it’s time to move on. My journey is still going strong and I have plenty of miniature projects on the way.
